49' Performance Deck Saloon Cruiser

The CR490 DS is the debut collaboration between BRYD and the Sweden Yachts Group, in the development of a forward-thinking blue water cruiser design for the world cruising market.

The 490 has been developed to encompass all the attributes associated with an exceptional blue water cruiser sailing characteristics; from the initial brief, a goal was set to achieve the best performing blue water yacht in her class. A rigorous approach in naval architecture and performance development has yielded a yacht of superior performance and seakeeping characteristics whilst ensuring excellent handling in terms of sail control and balance.

The 490 incorporates a spacious and comfortable living space with the raised saloon providing approximately 270° panoramic views whilst dining, socialising or lounging in the saloon area. The raised forward-facing navigation station enables full visibility whilst navigating or even on watch under autopilot.

CR 490DS Design

Exterior

The CR 490 has been developed to achieve a modern line and feel that sets it firmly apart from the legacy blue water brands and ranges, whilst maintaining a high-end feel and class ethos to ensure the longevity of the design over time.

The aft cockpit design has been developed to achieve a spacious yet protected seating area, incorporating a glass windshield and bimini to shelter the crew from the elements whilst on long passages. The deck has been conceived with sail control and ergonomics at the heat of the design philosophy, ensuring ease of control in sail changes and reefing as well as general trim and manoeuvring.

Within the cockpit sole is a watertight hatch into the tender garage/lazarette for ease of stowage and access.

The flush foredeck provides a clean space forward with multiple portlights and hatches to maximise interior light, alongside forward stowage, and anchor locker, assessed through a split door hatchway for easy access to the windlass or locker.

"This collaboration is positive for the development and future of the group, keeping us moving forwards and ensuring the continued production of world-class sailing yachts."
Mattias Rutgersson
SYG Managing Director
“We are very proud to be working with Mattias and Sweden Yachts Group in the development of the new CR490DS. CR Yachts have a long-standing history of producing exceptionally crafted bluewater yachts with uncompromised sailing performance. This ethos aligns fully with our own as a high-end yacht design firm and it is clear our collaboration of experience and skills has resulted in a very exciting new design.”
Ben Rogerson
BRYD Director

Interior

The interior has been developed to achieve an innovative deck saloon layout with options for customised cabins and utility rooms. As standard, the yacht supports a forward master cabin with ensuite as well as single crew room amidships, with double and single cabins or utility room incorporating washing facilities and stowage aft.

Synonymous with the CR Yachts and Sweden Yachts Groups standards, the interiors are developed to incredibly high standards with careful selection of the woods, grains and materials for a superior interior finish. The standard design supports a light oak silk varnish finish for the global fit-out with cladded hull sides bringing a rustic homely feel to the spaces.

CR 490DS Construction

Hull Construction & Structural Design

The CR 490 is constructed via Vinyl ester – PVC core infusion processes with Structural scantlings that have been developed ISO 12215 -2019 under cat A ensuring a robust ocean-capable craft.

Critically loaded areas have been developed utilising comprehensive tools including Composide design software and drawing on industry-leading expertise in design and evaluation.

The result is a robust yet lightweight ocean-capable craft.

Deck Gear & Systems Design

The Deck systems incorporate carefully selected hardware, including Anderson 62 ST Primaries with Anderson 52 ST Main/Pit winches with Spinlock rope holding equipment specified as standard. Selden Furlex through deck electric furlers are utilised for both the forestay and cutter stays arrangement, providing easy sail control whilst maximising jib luff length for both sails.

Halyard’s, reefing lines and sail controls are led cleanly through rope tunnels within the deckhouse roof, providing a clean and organised deck layout. The deck saloon windows are double glazed as standard as per the CR Yachts Deck salon ethos. With x2 Lewmar 70 flush hatches for the forward cabin and a further x2 Lewmar 41s for the heads and corridor lighting.

Push pits, pull pits and stanchions are produced from high-grade marine stainless steel, polished to a mirror finish and securely fastened with stainless steel backing plates. Internal systems as standard include the Yanmar 4JH80 80Hp Engine with 400L fuel tanks, 600L freshwater tanks and 120L holding tanks servicing the 2x onboard heads.
