About BRYD
The Studio
BRYD is an independent yacht design, naval architecture and marine engineering studio founded by Ben Rogerson, based on the River Hamble on the south coast of the UK.
Working across the leisure, commercial and autonomous marine sectors, we specialise in the design and engineering of performance sailing yachts, motor yachts and specialist vessels, including autonomous and uncrewed craft.
Our work spans the complete design process, from initial concept and hull development through naval architecture, structural engineering and detailed production design, with continued support throughout construction.
Our team combines expertise in yacht design, engineering, boatbuilding and competitive offshore sailing. This hands-on experience informs our approach to every project, balancing performance, innovation and technical precision with a practical understanding of how vessels are built and operated.
How we work
From concept to construction
Every project follows the same three stages. Naval architecture, structures and systems are developed in parallel in 3D, so the design is resolved as a whole and arrives at the yard ready to build.

Founder
Ben Rogerson BEng (Hons)
Founder | Yacht Designer & Naval Architect
Growing up in Cowes on the Isle of Wight, Ben developed a lifelong passion for sailing, yacht design and marine engineering. His career has been shaped by extensive experience designing, building and racing high-performance yachts.
After completing an HND in Leisure Boat Design in 2003, Ben spent eight years building advanced composite racing yachts, including TP52s and Open 60s, working alongside leading international race teams. He later returned to university, graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Yacht and Powercraft Design from Southampton Solent University, where he received the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and IMarEST ‘Top Final Year Student’ award.
Following his involvement in several high-profile design projects, Ben founded BRYD in 2016, bringing together his experience in naval architecture, engineering and boatbuilding. Under his direction, the studio has expanded its work across the leisure, commercial and autonomous marine sectors, delivering innovative, performance-driven vessel designs.
Sailing Experience
Ben is an accomplished competitive sailor, having won National and European Championships in his youth as crew in small keel boats and been part of winning teams in UK regattas in Class 0 yachts, TP52s, and the RORC Commodore’s Cup. He has also been given the opportunity to take part in Mini Maxi events, both inshore and offshore, in the Mediterranean.
Offshore and short-handed sailing has always been a huge passion with 4 Fastnet Races, a Middle Sea Race and over 15,000 nautical miles in deliveries, racing and challenges under his belt. This includes a record of 15 days for a non-stop single-handed challenge around the UK and Ireland in a 6.5 metre Mini Transat.
This combination of competitive sailing, practical boatbuilding and technical expertise continues to shape Ben’s approach to design, with a focus on performance, innovation and engineering solutions that work in the real world.
